The rock garden is most famous for its sculptures made from recycled ceramic. It is created by Nek Chand, in 1957. Today it is spread over an area of forty-acres, It is situated near Sukhna Lake. It consists of man-made interlinked waterfalls and many other sculptures that have been completely built of industrial & home waste like bottles, glasses, bangles, tiles, ceramic pots, sinks, electrical waste, etc.
The main attraction of Sukhna is that it is a man made lake. It is a 3 km long and it lies in the foothills of Shivalik range. The Lake is also a venue for water sports activities such as boating, sailing, kayaking and water skiing. Sukhna Lake is the venue for many festival celebrations too. The most popular is the Mango Festival held during the monsoons when scores of varieties of mangoes are on display. From time-to-time other food festivals, featuring specialities from different Indian States, are also held here, along with cultural performances.
Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, is a botanical garden is Asia’s largest Rose Garden and spread over 30 acres of land, with 50,000 rose-bushes of 1600 different species. Named after India’s former president, Zakir Hussain and created in 1967 under the guidance of Dr M.S. Randhawa. Apart from serving as a host of other events, the Zakir Rose Garden serves as the spot for hosting the annual Festival of Gardens, a major cultural event of the city during the month of March. The contests are open to the residents or institutions from close by places.
